Road to Black Belt

Ranks are powerful motivation devices for students and indicate dedication, knowledge, and responsibility. Getting a black belt shouldn’t be the only goal but it is a huge life accomplishment that takes many years of work.

Depending on the age you start training, how often you practice, competition performance, and mentorship to others, a judo black belt can take anywhere from 10-18+ years to earn (and is well worth it).

MINI JUDOKAS

The following table is for students that start training between the ages of 3-6 years old. While in the Mini Judokas class, these students will test more frequently to help establish key concepts and reward good behavior/hard work.

Once a student graduates and/or ages into the basic judo class they will start earning basic judo ranks, starting withWhite/Yellow belt.

BASIC KIDS JUDO

The next table is for those that starttraining between the ages of 7-13 years old or is a Mini Judoka graduate. Here we build a strong grappling foundation with our tried-and-true fundamentals curriculum.

Once a student receives the rank ofYellow belt, they may participate in randori class (sparring) where we compete against teammates. This means they’ve mastered dojo etiquette, the rules, falling safely, and a few basic throws, pins, and turnovers.

Once a student receives anOrange belt, then they graduate into our intermediate system.

These students have a complete understanding of our fundamental curriculum and display all of our leadership skills.

Here we learn more complex techniques, competition theory/strategy, and put our leadership skills to use as assistant instructors. Those who assist and compete in tournaments reach rank quicker. 

ADVANCED KIDS JUDO

AtBlue Belt, students pick a focus: full instructor training and/or competition training. Once students reach 12-13 years of age, they start to integrate adult classes into their training.
